‘Weight Watchers And Intuitive Eating Helped Me Lose 100 Pounds’

My name is Alex Wittner (@fittbywitt), and I’m 25 years old. I live near Tampa, Florida, and I work in marketing for a tech company. I didn’t want my weight to stop me from living my life, so I used Weight Watchers and intuitive eating to lose weight. Together with weight lifting and HIIT workouts, they helped me lose 100 pounds.


I had always been the bigger kid. I had the tendency to snack and overeat in my adolescent years and often wanted to hide my body from people. There was a period in middle school when I decided that I wanted to lose some weight and lost about 30 pounds, but I gained it all back.

I really started to spiral during my sophomore year of high school when I got a concussion during a soccer game at the beginning of the season. This greatly cut down my physical activity and was a difficult time for me.

At 15, I weighed 270 pounds. I was in a bad place and I turned to food. I gained a significant amount of weight over those six months and really didn’t know what to do with myself. Once I was able to play sports again, I couldn’t because I was so out of shape. I started to distance myself from the people I was closest to. I didn’t want to leave the house, and I turned down invites to hang with friends, go to family events, and more.

I knew it was time to make a change. I didn’t want my weight to stop me from living my life and get in the way of me being a kid!

My mom encouraged me to try WW (formerly known as Weight Watchers) meetings for accountability and support.

My parents are the absolute best and would’ve done anything to make sure I could get healthy again. I remember it was a chilly November day, and my mom drove me to a WW meeting. She told me before I went in, “All you have to do is go in once. If you don’t like it, we can leave.” And the rest was history. I loved the program, the people, the eating methods, and I lost the majority of my weight with it.

Now, I maintain my weight with a combination of intuitive eating and WW. I would define my eating style as balanced. I truly believe that you can enjoy life while being healthy. You don’t have to miss out on holidays or skip your birthday dinner–everything can be enjoyed in moderation.

Here’s an example of what I eat in a day now.

  • Breakfast: Nonfat Greek yogurt with berries, honey, and granola
  • Lunch: A Greek bowl with white rice, arugula, hummus, tomatoes, olives, grilled chicken, and tzatziki
  • Snacks: Popcorn and a cheese stick or apples with peanut butter
  • Dinner: Two-ingredient dough pizza or Mexican casserole bake (another favorite)
  • Dessert: Jell-O with fat-free whipped cream or Oreos

    Even before starting my weight loss journey, I was always super active and exercising.

    I was a three-sport athlete up until I had an injury. Once I started my weight loss journey, I was lifting weekly and learning how to do movements that made me feel good and benefited me. A typical week of exercise now includes three to four days of lifting mixed with four to five days of HIIT. On rest days, I like to go for a walk around the neighborhood.

    There are also days that I really just don’t have the energy to move my body. On those days, I take a break or just get in some easy movement like walking or riding my desk bike while I get work done.

    These three changes have led to my weight loss success.

    1. I found exercise that I love. Find exercise that you love—if you don’t love it, you won’t do it. There are so many different forms of movement in today’s world. This also means that there are so many different people on social media telling you to do one thing and telling you to do something completely different the next. Find what works for you and stick to it. Also, don’t be afraid to try something new! There are so many free trial classes when checking out new studios around your area and so many online resources such as YouTube with thousands of videos! Try it all.
    2. I made sustainable changes. Going cold turkey on your favorite food is only going to lead to you going overboard at a later time. Making sustainable changes that still allow you to enjoy the foods you love is going to work in the long run. You aren’t going to hit your weight loss goal in two weeks. Making changes that allow you to live your life will only benefit you.
    3. I drank lots of water and got lots of sleep. Drink your water and get eight hours of sleep. It sounds silly, but start with the basics. I make sure I get in a gallon of water every day and aim for eight hours of sleep. Doing simple things like these will set you up for a successful day and allow you to accomplish your goals.

        Overall, I’ve lost 100 pounds.

        Stick to it because all of the hard work is 1,000 percent worth it. If you want something so badly, you are going to make it work! Everybody has the same 24 hours in the day, so make it a priority to take care of you before others.

        I really encourage doing something that will help you develop healthy eating habits and benefit you in the long run. Fad diets or quick fixes are never the answer even though they are so tempting (trust me, we’ve all been there).
